Our main Spring Members’ meeting this year is to be an online only event in conjunction with our friends over at the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway. However, so that we don’t miss out on an in-person get together, we are holding a meeting at Derby (at the Museum of Making in the Silk Mill, of course) on Saturday 17th May from 10:30 until 15:30 or so. As it is a “supplementary” event we won’t be having an external speaker. Instead we will be doing something a little different…
I will be leading a group photo show. I will use the Study Centre’s extensive collection and pick a selection of what I hope you will find interesting and unusual photographs and we can talk about them. As I’m sure everyone will appreciate, a group approach should bring out a wide range of features to discuss. I intend the focus to be more geographical than, say, locos, carriages, wagons or signals, and will try to bring out some rarely looked at locations for us to talk about. Doesn’t that sound like fun?
An added attraction will be a large selection of secondhand books (no offer refused!) that we’ve recently acquired from a sadly missed member. There’s not a lot of Midland titles, but a wide range of subjects for you to browse (and buy!).
The main presentation will be “simulcasted” over Zoom from 13:00 (the ‘show’ itself will likely get going a little bit later than that) and will be recorded for watching later. To keep things simple, I will re-use the same Zoom link as will be circulated with the AGM Notice. I will do my best to manage things such that those attending remotely can contribute to the discussions along with those in the room, but as I will be juggling two screens I’ll be at the mercy of the technology. In other words, if you can make it in person, I think you will get the best out of the event but we won’t forget those of you who can’t!
