Large collection of MR photographs available for download

A view of Ashchurch railway station

Thanks to the generosity and painstaking scanning & cataloguing work of Ian Howard, we are able to make available 308 high quality Midland Railway views of locations and stations collected by the late Jack Braithwaite. Though some are relatively common, there are also a lot of very rare views in this collection. All of them are now available to download from the search results within the Study Centre Catalogue, but unless you are logged-in as a MRS member, the images is only available at medium resolution and is watermarked. Midland Railway Society members get access to the original 600dpi scan.

The collection can be viewed in its entirety by selecting “Photograph (Jack Braithwaite)” from the Category dropdown list on the Catalogue search page while leaving the Search field itself blank.

An example from the collection is seen here in the form of a view of Ashchurch station including the South Junction signal box. It is a northwesterly view from the Tewkesbury Road bridge taken in the Edwardian period and shows a train departing for Malvern.
