It’s the start of Day Two at The Greatest Gathering, and if the first day is any measure, it’s going to be another spectacular and busy day. The event is geared up to present Wow! moments one after the other and the feedback is that it is more than achieving its aim. The Midland Railway Society are part of the History, Heritage and Preservation Zone in U Shop – so if you’re at the event over the weekend do come and say hello. There is so much to see and only six hours to cram it all in. Visitors are guaranteed to get their daily quota of steps in!
Much credit and thanks are due to Alstom and the small and incredibly hard working team behind it all.
Needless to say, the Society has hundreds of photos from around the site over several days (including the set up). We won’t bore you with them here, but we will show off some our stand, as we are very proud of it… Part of the quid pro quo of us having a presence here as part of Railway200 is to tell a story relating to railway history. As the “home team” it is natural that we chose to tell the story of Litchurch Lane. Our friends and colleagues from Derby Museums are also here, promoting the history of the city itself.
The team of members supporting the stand are being kept busy during the day, explaining the history of the Carriage and Wagon Works specifically and the Midland Railway in general (and being the first stand that visitors encounter entering U Shop – giving directions to the toilets!). All that and selling books, ephemera and even signing up some new members.
We will be posting copies of the displays here in due course, but for the meantime we hope the following snaps whet everyone’s appetite – taken before the crowds descended on us and left no time for photos!
