Midland Railway Society Visit to Litchurch Lane

An aerial view of Alstom UK's Litchurch Lane Carriage & Wagon Works at Derby

Later this week a group of Midland Railway Society members will be visiting Alstom UK’s Litchurch Lane site at Derby – or as we prefer to think of the place: the former Midland Railway Carriage & Wagon Works. The Society worked closely with Alston during the summer under the Railway200 banner and more specifically with The Greatest Gathering which unforgettably took place at Litchurch Lane in August. As part of all that, the Society used its resources and collective knowledge to author and illustrate a series of  interpretation panels, now permanently installed around the Works as a legacy of Railway200. These combine to tell the story of the site, its development and evolution and the functions of each of the “Shops” on the site over its 149 year history.

This visit was quickly fully booked but it is our intention to conduct at least one further visit early next year. If you are a Midland Railway Society member and would like to get your name on the waiting list, contact Dave Harris (you know how, or if you don’t look in the inside cover of each Member’s Newsletter!). If you’re not a Midland Railway Society member, then why not? Or why not join us. This link will take you right to Membership recruitment page and you can join through our Shop right now.
