This is the story of the rural stretch of the Midland Railway’s Lincoln and Nottingham line that runs through the countryside east of the river Trent between Lincoln and Newark.
Opened the great fanfare in 1846, this largely forgotten aside in the history of the Midland and subsequent railway companies, has often been overlooked. Although earmarked for closure by Beeching in the 1960s, the line and its people have survived albeit with many changes.
This book by a social historian advised by railway historians, provides many insights into the life of this railway and its surrounding communities.
