The Ecclesbourne Valley has had a railway since 2nd October 1867 when the Midland Railway opened the branch from a junction with its Derby – Sheffield line at Duffield and retained a passenger service until 16th June 1947. Local quarries made great use of it until 1989 with the local limestone deposits were used in various ways, including cement manufacture, sugar making and steel flux. Shortly after closure, WyvernRail was established with the objective of reopening the line as a heritage railway and the Light Railway Order was subsequently granted with the line reopening in stages from August 2004 to full re-opening to Duffield achieved in April 2011.

Following the well-established Middleton Press format, this book provides a mainly pictorial insight into the history of this fascinating line.
