While the Rule Book gave detailed procedures for safe operation and the Working Time Table listed trains to be run, the Appendix was a book containing all the additional information staff needed for running the railway. The Midland issued their appendices in 4 separate parts, and the 1922 edition was the last issued by the Company before its merger into the London, Midland & Scottish Railway on 1 January 1923.
