Part of the Midland Main Lines series, the complex lines at Lincoln and their later simplification are fully explained and illustrated in the usual Middleton Press style with photographs and extended captions. Constructed by the Midland Railway, the line between Nottingham and Lincoln through Newark opened on 4th August 1846 with the short branch from Rolleston Junction to Southwell in 1847 before being extended to Mansfield. In addition to the locomotives and rolling stock, the splendidly styled buildings many of which still stand at most of the intermediate stations or depicted. The majority of the images are from LMS or BR LMR with some from early Midland days and others from the diesel era into the 1970s which much rationalisation of services and infrastructure was taking place.
