The Burton & Ashby Light Railway was a wholly owned subsidiary of the Midland Railway opened in 1906 operating between Burton on Trent and Ashby de la Zouch and closed in 1927. The tramway cost almost £90,000 to construct and was deemed necessary because the railways in the area were heavily used by multiple industries which precluded a viable passenger service. This well-researched book describes in fascinating detail the story of this little-known outpost of the Midland Railway.
